Doesn't look confusing to me. First shaft was not the right one for a 1200. The shaft you got from Jeff, just has the back hole in the wrong spot. (By no means am I pointing fingers Jeff. Mistakes happen, even to best of us... on occasion. ) The middle shaft is correct for a 1200, but someone drilled another hole in it. Who knows why. You need a new shaft just like the center one, but without the second hole.

Lew's measurements might have varied.. I've discussed this before. Not every part was made to a tight spec. Probably just a jig that a guy threw the part in and drilled the hole. If he didn't make sure to get the shaft in the jig perfectly, then the holes will be just a bit off. That's probably why Lew's shaft measured just a little different. Don't get so worked up. It's no big deal. It's not a race car driveshaft. It's just a cold rolled rod with some holes drilled in it. If the spring hole is .5" one way or the other it isn't going to affect it. None that you will be able to tell anyway.

Thanks Jon.

Makes sense to me. I didn't think that much of a difference should matter, but it's good to confirm it.

The parts are packed up and heading to Jeff this week. Gonna have him do my cradle mod too since I'm shipping parts out. Fingers crossed, this will be the end of my driveline woes on my 1200.

After a few delays and busy weekends, I finally got some time to get the 1200 back together.

As expected Jeff went above and beyond to make things right. Since I was shipping things to him, I also sent my frame rails and had him do the cradle mod. Got a coupler from him too. Fine machine work as always.

Other than almost losing the ball bearing during assembly and battle the front engine bolts, it all went together pretty smooth. the driveline now runs smooth and it mows nice.

Next up wheel bearings in the 149 ....

When I'm working on it in the middle of the woods, with now power or running water around, I do the best I can. It's a worker, and gonna get dirty anyway. I try to make sure anything affecting airflow around the engine is debris free. Otherwise, the grease and grass just protect it form the elements

In a few weeks, we should be moved into the house and I'll have a garage. Then I'll probably do a little better job cleaning and prepping when I do work.

I would have loaded it up and took it to a garage. It's just a lawn tractor. It's not hard to move. Gear drive at that, so it rolls easy. It's not like it's an 8 ton dozer with a spring brake that you can't move. Why work outside in the weeds??

They were just starting digging my foundation when I worked on it. It was less work to just do the work where it was than to try and drive through the mud and ruts to load it up on a trailer, to only take it home, to my back yard where I would still be working on it in the grass. Plus I don't want a disassembled tractor at my house when I'm trying to sell it. Weeds don't bother me, and all I needed were hand tools anyway.

Thanks. Just spent 2 hours knocking grass down. Can't wait to get moved in so I can keep it up a little at a time, instead of taking a trip to get as much in as I can on the weekends. And have a garage to work in....

Flooring and final plumbing this week. We hope to be in by July 14th. Getting pretty excited

Good to hear you're back in business.

Hopefully July 14th works and it's not the "two weeks" like in the movie "The Money Pit"

Jeff made me a shaft for my 1000 when I put a clutch in it March 2016. I sent him the original shaft and he sent it back with the new one. I put the tractor back together with norw parts and it functions perfectly.

I hope you get your clutch parts straightened out and back together. They are really nice tractors when they are right.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
