My other job
I work 45 hours a week managing a fiberglass shop, (SUCKS) but I do this on the side....This was last weekend's job.....210yr old red oak...5.5' white to white at the stump, didnt even begin to crown until 47' up, straight stalk....Large piece of solid timber...Some of the growth rings are thinner than a fingernail..... I topped out at 70' on this one....Over looked a lake....No peace on earth like it, then yank the saw and it's like a shot of whiskey In The vein...

Wow that's impressive. I've been in awe of guys that can do that kind of work and not bat an eye. What kind of saw are you running way up there? It's a big one when you're limbing saw has a 30 inch bar on it.
 gotta be either a stihl or a husky? Thanks for sharing

Now that is impressive! I had a climber do a few trees for me when I lived in CT and was amazed at what he could do. He used to be on the Sthil competition team.

I won't discuss how nutty you are to climb that thing.
 I will ask, was the wood good enough to be used for lumber (and was it) or is that tree now a 3 year supply of firewood?

Nope, no more stripping for me....I am a Stihl man although I have used my share of other saws...i have a 14" on a 192t, a 16" on a 200t, a 20" on an 026 pro, and up to a 32" skip full chisel on the modded out 460mag...I do have some other homies and an old wards that just hang from the ceiling but they don't make any $....I climb with a set of Buckinghams, and DDRT...i can't stand being in a bucket.....Right now the log is sitting at 26' the owner thought maybe someone would want to mill it, even though it was dead it was solid timber, and it's a damn shame to think you could get straight grained 36" wide by 9 quarter planks out of it easily, of whatever...but at this point I'm slated to buck it up Friday...
Just thought I'd share....It's eating into my 72 project though quite heavily....I'll try and get some pics if I go up and speed line these two spruces next to some power lines this weekend... Thanks guys Mike

I do also have an old ms290 someone blew up and I put a crazy ported 390 engine in it and carb...I reinforced the handle and did some other stuff to it to make into a climbing saw, (as they get beat up) but it's just to heavy and lacks the crankcase volume of the pro saws....I'll call some stalks with it from time to time though....
