How much travel should there be in the steering wheel while at speed? I am guessing there is approximately 6 inches plus. Normal?

Little to none. You most likely need to adjust the steering box and replace the tie rod ends and tighten the c channel the axle rides in.

Look what I found on a previous thread:
The IH-549250-R1 is the correct belt which is by dimension: 13/32" x 143-7/8".

A "section A" belt is over 1/2" in width. It would seem that it would not ride in the Pulley grooves correctly.

BTW....the IH-549250-R1 belt is still available from CC.

And that's why I don't run cub belts.

Great deal. Look at it this way though, even if you buy the Cub belt, you'll still have only $300 in the whole setup.

I agree wholeheartedly..... except... I'm not poor, I just dont have any money. lol

Is there an equivalent belt out there? and yes I have been scouring the inter webs... no luck yet. This is the part I enjoy the most, tracking down parts and building source lists. Part of the process.

What do you think is a fair price for that machine, tiller and shot deck? I figure around 600... He bought a new CC and just wanted out. He gave it away..
hooray for me! Im in the Northeast with a shorter mowing season so that probably helped keep the hours down..

Try these folks, I didn't get a hit on the part # so you may want to call them. I've bought a few different belts from them in the last 3-4 years with no problems.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
