Belt keeps coming off
I have this 124 with the mower on it. I put a new belt on it and it keeps coming off. Are there suppose to be 2 belt tensions on the mule drive or 1 tension adjuster and 1 spring?
also why we are at it, what to do with a PTO that keeps in gaged? 1st time doing it on this tractor

gates belt from Napa, got the belt specs in another thread here.
when looking at the front of the machine, is the spring on the left pully and the threaded rod tension on the right? just wondering if it makes a difference. Pto lever can be forward, out of the normal on off range and it still runs.

Not all belts are Ag type belts that take the twists and turns that this Cub Belt takes. BTDT.
As far as the Mule Drive. See attached from page 3-7 of the Service Manual As far as the PTO, if adjustment don't cure the problem, then it is time for a PTO rebuild. The procedure is outlined starting on pages 2-60 in the service manual.

I agree with Roland. One other thing to check is the spindles on the deck. I was having the same issue. Checked the spindles and found the center one was badly worn. Just my

It doesn't matter. It is a NF deck.

even though they call for a 3/8 wide belt i always run the 1/2 wide husky belts from tsc, ive never had one come off and ive been running the same belts for 5 years and they still look new.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
