Original mower deck belt
I have a 62 original and the timed mower deck belt broke today while I was mowing....I am going to order one tonight. I was looking at the deck and I didn't see any way to take the spindles loose to slide them in to put the belt on. Also does anyone know the best place to order the belt from I know the part number is IH 464860 R2. Thanks for any and all help

Thank you J-Mech I really appreciate your help. I'm sure I'll have the ole girl back mowing before the yard will need it.

Ok...got her back together and mowing. What I learned was that the timed belt was way to tight causeing it to bind which eventually broke the belt. I first read the manual...thanks to J-Mech and then tore the deck apart. Regreased the bearings, reset the belt tension so that it was tight but everything still turned freely. I replaced both belts because the small belt that engauges the deck was badly stretched. After I checked everything and sharpened the blades I took her for a spin....mowes beautifully just like it was designed to do. Thanks again for all the help.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
