The spring assist arrived today and i am going to try installing it tomorrow afternoon. I thought I saved a link to some photos, but now I can't find it. Does anyone have any photos or a source to show me how it installs?

I got the spring assist installed today. It makes a difference, but that tiller is still heavy!

My dad is coming up tomorrow and I will let him see what he thinks. In the mean time, I am still having carb issues. I guess that is pretty common, as I have searched on here for solutions. I have tried adding a little marvel mystery oil to the gas. This worked for my Farmall Cub and Super A when I had the same issue. No luck this time. The carb floods like the needle and seat are bad, or there is trash under it. I bought a new oem kohler needle and seat as well as a float. It still floods. I have a see through filter before the carb. I have the float adjusted per the instructions that came with it. I don't see any trash. Against my better judgement, I bought one of those cheapo $25 carbs off ebay. It floods worse than the old stocker! Doe anyone have any suggestions? Im afraid to buy an OEM $150-$200, for fear it will flood too...

Also, when it is running, it only wants to run fast, as if the governor is fouled up. I can disconnect it and run the throttlel by hand and it will run slower. I cannot adjust the threaded rod from the governor out any more to slow it down.???

I have to wonder if he got it from a dealer and they didn't tell him he needed a creeper gear to use a tiller with the 128. So far I have added a creeper, the spring assist, fixed the pto and unstuck the lift. Now I just need to get the carb to quit flooding!

Carbs are pretty simple to fix. Has to be one of the things you mentioned. Dirt in the needle valve, or float not set right. You state it must be a common issue.... yes, it's common for a fuel system to have issues that hasn't been used. Yes, more and more people seem not to be able to solve simple issues like this anymore. I'll just say, it's not the machines fault.

Pull the tank, drain and clean it, install new fuel lines, clean the carb, set the float. Just fix it.

Go download the K series service manual and reset the governor and adjust the throttle linkage. If that doesn't fix the overspeed, then the governor gear is likely in pieces in the oil pan. You should be able to watch it while running and see if the governor is trying to do its job. A Cub Cadet is just like an F Cub, only smaller. Pretty easy machines.

Pull the tank, drain and clean it already did this, guess i will do it again.
Install new fuel lines same as above
clean the carb same as above
set the float same as above

a cub cadet is just like an f cub, only smaller. It has the same transmission and rear axle, but a completely different engine and carburetor... I have never had this much trouble with a farmall cub carb.

Yep. Do it all again. Apparently you either missed something, or did it wrong.

Yes, the two have different engines and carbs. But the carburetors work EXACTLY the same way, and are far more similar than you think. I've never had trouble fixing a carb on either machine..... and I've worked on a lot of them. I take that back. Had trouble on an F-Cub one time, but the carb body had warped or cracked and I didn't see it until the 2nd time I disassembled it.

Saturday AM,

I cleaned the gas tank again and disassembled the carb and took the needle out. Although I didn't see anything under the needle, when I reinstalled everything, she ran good!

He lives about four hours from me (south) so he got a neighbor to till his garden, so he hasn't run it yet. (His planting time is a couple of weeks ahead of mine. I hadn't planted yet since we were still in the time of year were we might still get a freeze.) He did come up a couple of weeks ago, but he watched me till mine, but I forgot to have him try it! You are correct that I didn't notice a "night and day" difference, but it helps.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
