Something I was wondering , do they make a forged steel rod for kohlers? Just curious gonna use a regular aluminum rod on mine.

Not to my knowledge. I would think that would really throw the balance off..... like A LOT!

What after market rod are you using that is so heavy it requires rebalancing the crank?

any of them are heavy enough that the rotating assembly needs to be balanced.

Don, with a .10" under rod on a k301 do you need to rebalance anything? Or just the larger engines?

when I say aftermarket rods I' referring to the billet rods by Kerber, Midwest, vogel ect

stock motors are so far out of balance I don't think the insert affects much but I think its a good idea

That's what I thought with stock engines the way they shake and carry on not be well balanced to start with. I fig the balancing was more for pulling engines running higher Rpms .

reviving an ancient post

Anyone have a part number for an insert for a K301/K321 rod that is 0.020" under?

nevermind/found it. turns out even after I got the PN it was a bit tough to locate.

I just ordered a set of 4, 0.020 inserts from eBay to do this exact job,. I have 2 used Kohler rods at the machine shop to have them bored for an insert as we speak. I found out the application needed, can go std all the way to 0.060 under. Let's see what he charges me to rework the rod, will make future rebuilds a piece of cake, can use the same rod for any undersize I want. I have a k321 in machine work right now, with a pair of k341s and a M14 ready right behind this one for the machine shop.
