Default Messin around

Messin around with a couple of the cubs today preparing for the ... inevitable.. and got the new to me snow thrower hung on the 1650. Gots some sort of heat shield around the discharge chute. Lift bracket looks to have been "modified" by a PO. Thought that should have been 90 degrees to the lower lift arm. Thought I'd cut it off and re weld it back in position so the supplied connecting rod would work, but,.. found another rod in my stack of stuff that would work as is. Heat shield would not allow the chute to rotate so I had to modify accordingly... Top of heat shield interferes with opening the hood??? Maybe I should just cut the thing off??? (the heat shield that is)

That is definitely a PO mod.....cut if free! Looks like a real powerhouse for the snow you have there. It's kinda fun just messin' around, just don't go "messin' with the man!"

Yeah Cub Cadet 123, I’m hoping it will be a real power house. Last winter my neighbor built a three wheeled, v bladed, strobe light flashing snow plowing monster so I really got to show him who da man is this year! Unfortunately for him his 5’7”, 147 lb frame didn’t provide enough ballast to do much good with it. Even with loaded tires and all the steel weights he could wire onto the thing he spent most of his time spinning tires so I think I got a chance.

Regarding the heat shield, I think it’s to help prevent the exhaust from icing up the chute. Reluctant to cut it off but.., would really like for the hood to open!

What does the inside surface of the chute feel like. If it is rough/rusty, that is the first factor as far as icing/blockage. Get the rust off and paint it with high gloss or graphite paint. The QL exhaust is the second factor to icing. It looks like you have an elbow on your exhaust pipe? If so, that should be all you need. I have a 45 degree elbow that I put on my exhaust when I hook up the snow thrower on my 1450. Since installing the elbow and painting the chute, my icing problems went away. You can ditch the heat shield.

Absolutely, I have a similar setup with a 1450. The exhaust doesn't bother none, look at it like an automatic defrost cycle!

Cool rig btw, you'll love it!

Well I think I'm ready, almost. Removed the shield, got a speed up pulley, got a new belt, added some extra lighting, checked to make sure that the thrower came with the proper right angle gear box;

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
