Default Tiller

Hey guys,

My dad and I were looking into a rear tiller setup for either the 782, 1872 or maybe the 1864. We have a john deere tiller (4 foot) but it has the 540 shaft. Are there any options that would work. I saw there was a PTO kit for the 1872 but its not likely I would find one. I found a couple older IH built tillers for sale around me but not sure which ones work on what tractor. I do have the 3 point for the 1864 if that helps.

The correct Tiller for the 782 (or similar) tractor would be the IH 2B Tiller or the 190-400 (CCC) Tiller.

Even if you found a rear pto for the1872, it wouldn't work. Those pto's spin at 2000 rpm, much to fast for the 540 JD you have. Roland's suggestions are your best choices. The 2b will mount up to the 782 if you have a cat 0 3 point and is powered by the tractor. I am not positive, but I don't think it is compatible with an 1864. The 190-400 is self powered and can be put behind any tractor with a cat 0 3 point.

If your handy, you can mount up an older IH tiller on the 782 using a cub cadet 3 point hitch. It takes some work, but it's been done.

Or if you know a good fabricator , an adapter can be made to use it on a sleeve hitch adapter

How do those 190-400s work. There's one closer to me for sale but he wants 750.00 for it. It does look pretty nice though.

Luckily we all know one.

I love mine, on and off the tractor in minutes, and you don't get beat up like a walk behind. If you have a lot of garden, it will make short work of it which could make it worth that money. If you just want one, I would try to find one for less. FYI, MTD sold the same tiller branded as a White....even though they're painted all black.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
