Default 2146 with 1200 hours

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and to cub cadets. My father in law gave me a model 2146 with 1200 hours on it. He bought it new in 2000. I've been using it for two months now and making repairs as I go. I had to replace a tie rod first. Then added orings to the hydro dip stick to stop the oil from leaking out. I'm mowing a hillside. Now I've got an oil leak under the oil pump cover so I need an oring replaced. The bearing is out of the pto clutch so I have a new clutch on order. Other than these things it seems to be ok. Until the next thing breaks.
Now I realize there are good models to own and there are models that are not so good. My question is, is this model worth keeping and fixing or will it just continue to give me problems?

The first cub cadet I had was an AGS 2130. It mowed very nice but had similar problems you are having. I kept going older and older and liked them better the older they got. I really like narrow frames and 82 series, my primary mower is a 982 now for the time being.
That is just my opinion. If it were me and I were in your predicament I would fix that baby up, sell it and get an old IH cub. I have run the crap out of a 124 and has required virtually zero maintenance and does an outstanding job cutting grass or plowing a garden

Sounds like you put some money in the ol girl. Up to you, but id probably finish out the year, clean it up and try selling it next spring if you have the storage space. Its my general observation that a 782 with kt17 twin, 1811, 1864 are probably the most sought after machines if your wanting a machine that has good power and hydraulic capabilities.

Thank you for the responses. I gather from your post that the 2000 series is not the best out there. I think I'll continue to keep it running and use it for now. I'll also watch for and try to learn something about the other mowers you mention. Thanks again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
