Default CH 22 Kehlin Carb clean and rebuild

I am off work this coming week. I have had the carb kit and gaskets for a while now. So I surgically removed the carb this AM before it got too hot. I had my cordless vacuum trying to keep all the dirt out of the intake. Went pretty smooth. Covered all openings with duct tape. Kind of sketchy tearing down my only mower but lawns are not growing and more brown than green right now. We are horribly dry for the end of June.

This is only the second carb I have ever been into so all suggestions are welcome. I first blew the crud off with air. Then I cleaned the outside with carb cleaner. Then split it in two. There is some sort of brown sticky goop on the original game style gasket between the two half. This I did not anticipate. Is this some type of sealant I need to reapply?

More photos. And then into the Pinesol. Hope this works. Oh, why the attention to this carb? It would not idle down. It would hunt and surge terrible when not running wide open. It mows the lawn very well. I am sure if I were a knowledgeable mechanic I would say something like the middle and idle circuits are compromised. What ever that means.... So wish me luck. Gonna need it.

After 24 hours in the Pinesol, I washed the carb up and wiped it down. Replaced all the o-rings. Put a small wire into all the jet wholes. Blew threw all the passages with carb cleaner. Put it together and took it apart four times in an OCD frenzy. Then finally achieved peace with my work. New top and bottom gaskets. New air and pre-cleaner. New fuel filter and gas line up to the carb(Cleaned the tank, tank valves and all new line forward to the filter last summer). Runs pretty damn smooth. Very proud of myself! I would upload a video if I could figure out how. Anyways. It runs a hell of alot better and I am very pleased!!!

It is good that you got it going. What did you do about the adhesive?

Looks great. I think I have the same carb (well, maybe not as dirty)...I have not had my off or apart (yet). Can you adjust the mixture at all on that? Mine seems to be running on the rich side and both plugs looked black and sooty. I'm wondering if I can just lean it out a bit? If not, I guess I'll be doing the same thing you did.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
