Cub Cadet 2140 Turning Radius
I have a 1996 2140 ( I know its has the piece of crap AGS system and yes I know its not a hydro). Just had to get that out of the way.
So I inherited this tractor from my grandpa, and not sure if something was messed with in the past. I have noticed some abnormal wear on the front tires. So I think there is a bit of an alignment issue. Are there any other adjustments besides the tire rod ends? Lastly, there is a major difference if I am turning right versus left. Turning right is a very nice tight turn, but turning left it is about half of the radius turning. Which I think is also contributing to the wear on the original front tires. So, a recap of my questions: 1. Alignment - any other adjustments besides the tie rod ends? I can't see any. 2. Can anything be done about the turning radius and matching them or is this a design/engineer issue? |

Thanks iron man, I feel like maybe that steering pinon gear isn't centered on the Steering Segment Gear by looking at that picture.
Call me crazy, but shouldn't a tractor turn the same rate whether its left or right? |

You want it to turn sharper to the non-discharge side of the mowing deck.

Well, sure enough, turns out in my hast a year ago, I put the left tie rod in the inner hole and the right in the outer hole. They are now both in the outer holes and it is back to normal.
Man, I kind of hate myself right now... |

Don't! We've all done stupid things. Just be glad it was an easy fix instead of having it be something more complicated that required the all mighty $$$

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
