Try to find a 48" IMO. They are taller and will throw grass better (not plug up as easily). Plus they cut reaaaaaaaaaaaal nice, and since they extend past the wheels, you can edge/get under things better.

I don't know. I've never seen a working one, so it was hard to tell what was wrong when I had it all put together. I rebuilt it over 10 years ago, followed the instructions that came with the kit. The issue I has was it wouldn't disengage and it also apparently didn't lock onto the crank shaft. There may have been something wrong with the locking ring. Could have been missing other parts as well, if the instructions didn't mention a part I may not have been aware if it was missing.

I'll have to do some more research when I rebuild it this time. I'm sure there are some good youtube videos or something out there now that I wasn't able to find last time I did it.

It's up at my parents place, so I haven't taken a look recently. I don't expect to have too many issues with it. If I can find a rebuild kit on ebay cheap that may be a good way to go. Last time I think we bought one from Cub Cadet directly and it wasn't cheap.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
