Default Hello from NW PA

Hi all,
I like working on these old garden tractors. My previous restoration was on a 1978 John Deere 316 (the one with the Kohler engine). I recently purchased what I believe to be a 1974 Cub 149 that I will be working on over the winter. I picked it up for $150, nonrunning. Brought her home, cleaned the points, replaced the battery, and she fired up! Anyway, as I have much to learn about these machines I decided to create an account and stop by to say hello. I notice that there are several other members from my neck of the woods, so that is exciting. I have always wanted an early cub as my favorite truck is a 1975 International. Here are some pics.

Nice score on the 149! We restored one for my dad about 4 years ago and he loves it. It is a solid, functional machine that was built in the middle of the “Cubmania” of the 60’s and 70’s. My dad owned a 1966 Scout for about 20 years—I loved that little truck. We all wish that he never would have sold it. I like your full size a lot. Maybe someday I can add one of those to my stable...

YOU'LL find a wealth of knowledge here, and a bunch of folks from your neck of the woods.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
