NO way on God's green earth Can you compare a RER to a full sized Cadet. I used to hang out with my dad on Saturdays at the IH dealer he worked for. I drove basically everything Cadet made out on the yard to put on display (everything was brought inside at night). Even back in the late 70's I could tell the quality was not very good (of course I was growing up on real farm equipment and knew what quality was). I listened routinely to the sales pitches for the new machines. Basically the customer had it explained to them there were 2 classes of machine, light duty stuff and heavy duty. Both were backed by a full service and parts department--nationwide in most any decent sized town. However, it was pointed out that only the full sized machines would handle severe work and that the only REAL competition to a Cadet was Deere--a good product backed by a huge network of dealers is why those 2 owned the market.

Funny I tried to show some encouragement on a rebuild and you RER guys want to talk trash. A lot could be read into that I suppose.
Gee, I just bought the iH Cadet 60 because it looked like it would be fun to restore and maybe even use! I thought this forum might be a good place to get some advice on what is a fairly rare piece of equipment. Seems I was wrong. Maybe I need to get on back to my Bolens forum where folks are a tad bit friendlier.

Oh, I grew up driving REAL IH tractors in Iowa in the '50's. The F-20 and H were my favorites. The only Cubs in those days were Cubs. But I still like Cub Cadets - shoot, they're made by IH too, right?

For the record I think it's a real neat project!!

I had a 60 as a kid... dad geared it up for me with a bigger sprocket on the transmission... we called it the "MOW CART"!

Id really like to follow along so keep posting away!

I think John was only offering encouragement and interest

I wouldn't get upset. This is a great forum complete with knowledgeable, friendly members. I don't often comment but do enjoy the restorations and face lifts of the tractors and lawn mowers. Personally, I was looking forward to your restoration of this little gem. OCC, like all other forums is made up from a diverse group who share opinions both nice and otherwise. Enjoy the group, take advantage of the wonderful online manuals and experience from the members and you will find this to be a rewarding place.

John - Sorry if I offended you. My comment was only made in jest. I have a bit of a sarcastic humor about me that is not always understood.

SC - Don't leave us. I for one always appreciate seeing the care and workmanship that members put into their Cubs, especially the RER Cadet models. As the owner of a model 95, I am going through the same process albeit, not by intent on my part.

The little RER's have their place in the world, not everyone needs a full size Cub Cadet.

If there were no interest in them, there would not be a section here for them, so post your progress as you see fit.

Default Restore!

I like to see "things" restored. Period. In this case a piece from a time long past, that will bring it's current or future owner much joy. I'm not really interested in doing a restoration on a Coke machine, but do like to see the ingenuity, hard work, and pride that goes in by someone that does, way before the paint goes on. So restore away, and do give ALL of us here the chance to ride along with you.

Took some time away from tractors as I was (am) building a dock on my pond. Too hot in the barn to work on the tractors until October, probably.

Yeah, I'll hang around on OCC. I'm continuing to work on my Cadet 60 and still need to finish up on my CC 106. I also post once in a while on GTT, as I have two Bolens GTs I work on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
