I dont konw if there is, but I know when I talked to the engineer at school when I was doing my welder, he told me to work backwords to find the crank size. It took frank a few hours to figure it out, I had no numbers on the eng.

As far as the rod, I have some for sale, didnt post anything here cause its dealer stuff and dont want to tick off the powers to be. I belive I have one for a 321 in the list. I wouldnt think you would have to replace it just make sure that you tourque it right.

One of the first times I met my now boss he had bought out a dealer that had tons of short blocks. I picked up some for a friend that lives about 5 hrs away. If it were me, and its just my .02 worth, Id pull the gov rears out while you have it open. I have never seen a failure like that, most times the tang breaks off the rod from omeone over powering the rod.

When you said you live in Boiling Springs, the one in Greenville or the one up on the NC /Sc line? I posted info on the show in the event section for ya.

I'd remove the balance gears or at least replace the retaining parts. Had a real nice 169 that they ventilated....

worked on the chassis a little more tonight... im still trying to decide just how far im going to take it down... part of me wants to completely disassemble it and just do a complete rebuild, but for my purposes it doesn't really need it! It was either restored at least to some degree at some point in the past , or it was just really well taken care of! It has had a slacker repaint as there is some over spray that I can see in places...

I snapped a few pictures though...

how does this trunnion look? I hear every one talking about them alot... other then all the grease and sludge and crap it looks good to me but im no expert...

also,
what is this output shaft for on the back of the hydro pump ? it has a hole for a roll pin like its available to run some sort of accessory out the rear of the tractor ?

if nothing else every thing is getting a good cleaning/degreaseing..

what do you guys suggest to cut the sludge on the rear of the frame? there's some pretty nasty grease in places..

Im also going to rewire the whole thing for sure, as well as change out the trans fluid and give it a new filter!

few extra pictures...

Need a shot of the trunion looking straight down at it to see how bad it is.

its been a week or better since I messed with the 149 any more, but when I got home today I had a package from fedex with the new parts I had ordered.

Got all the engine gaskets, some transmission gaskets, gov gear assembly, flex couplers, hydro fan, drive shaft front roll pin, and a belt for my LT1045

When I had previously removed the engine I found the roll pin in the front of the drive shaft was half broken, so I ordered a replacement... The replacement showed up as a solid pin, rather then a hollow roll pin.. Is this correct?

Then I got to work finishing breaking the engine down....
Removed the balance gears, ( these are for sale $150 + shipping )

Heres a picture comparing the new gov gear to the old damaged one..

Also, its worth noting that when I pulled the cross shaft out of the engine the tab was noticeably loose. It was not factory welded as I have read some of them are, but rather had some sort of a worthless rivet holding it together. I knew it wasentbroken before I pulled the engine apart, so I didn't buy a new one, but I did fix this one! I dont have a welder currently set up here at the house, so I used a oxygen acetylene torch and a brazing rod, and brazed the tab to the shaft.

Not the best picture but you get the idea....

Thats all for tonight. This weekend, I plan on finishing cleaning the block inside and out, as well as all the internals. Every thing will then be reassembled using assembly lube, and then a fresh coat of engine enamel will finish it off.

I also plan on cleaning the chassis real good, changing some leaking gaskets and seals, along with a new oil filter and hydro oil..

and last but not least, as they say " This is where the magic happens".......

Oh yeah, good progress. It looks like we almost have the same set up work bench wise, just opposite sides.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
