108 clutch not completely stopping shaft spin
Mowed 2 acres this weekend with my 108.
The pedal was all the way depressed and the shaft is still spinning when I shifted. I was able to get by, by slowing the speed down to idle then it shifted fairly easily. Do not want to grind the gears and this was the only way I got by How do I adjust the clutch to stop the shaft from rotating?

When the pedal is down, it should push the bearing into the drive spring on the shaft and create a gap between the bearing and the teaser spring/rear plate. If this happens, then adjusting the clutch will do you no good.
With the pedal down, the rear plate should be able to slide rearward ever so slightly, leaving room for the clutch disk to spin freely between the plates. It sounds to me like something is binding and forcing the shaft to continue to spin. Either the plates aren't separating or the shaft is sticking in the pilot bushing. You gotta find out why the shaft doesn't stop spinning when the pedal is pushed down. Good luck to you.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
