Default PTO will not engage

I am having problems with my Cub 1170. After cutting grass for about 30 minutes, the PTO shut off and I have not been able to get it going again. For testing, I turn the ignition to the Run position and I have power at the PTO switch and when engaged, I have power at the PTO coil. However, when I actually start the tractor, I no longer have any power at the PTO switch. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

Thanks.

First, welcome to OCC.......

Next, there are two different Wiring Diagrams for the 1170. It depends on the serial number range. What is your Chassis Serial Number..??

I have a wiring diagram, but it is not exact, so that would be great if I could get the proper one. Model is 13AD608G656 and S/N 1A291H20183.

The PTO seems to be working now. After a lot of trouble shooting with no success, I took off and cleaned the ignition sw and PTO sw and the reconnected. It worked when I switched the key from RUN to Run w/lights and then back to RUN. Thanks

Sorry, model is 13AD608G595. It is a Canadian model, if that makes a difference.

Well, I would think it shouldn't, but one never knows. It would appear, that your tractor was made in the year 2000. There was production of this model also, in 2001, and 2002.

This model has caused me all sorts of headaches. Two different wiring diagrams and three different parts listings. Both the Parts Listing and the Wiring Diagram(s) are incomplete and confusing. I even called Cub Cadet Tech Support and there was 15 minutes of my life I will never get back.

Through all that crap, I think I have the PTO circuit figured out. It is different than the traditional CC circuits.

Wow, thanks for looking into this for me Roland. Much appreciated! Will you be uploading the wiring diagram?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
