Thanks to those that responded with the kind words. All I did was post a "Wanted" ad, and Steve responded with an email. As for his 1572, I sure did see and hear it, that thing looks great and sounds so nice! In the future I may have to look into purchasing the turbo kit that he installed.

Pulled the inspection plate from the tunnel and removed the seat. Everything looked normal, although with it running, I did hear a very faint "squeak" emanating from the fan portion of the driveshaft. It almost sounded like the little chirping noise you get when drilling through steel...anyone have a suggestion?

And does anyone recognize if this seat a factory option or aftermarket?

Did a little messing around with the front end, trying to get the hood to sit flush on the pedestal. The air filter on top of the Kubota is hitting the hood and not allowing it to fully close.

So with the help of my two boys, we unbolted the grill and tucked a few shims under it. We did have to trim a bit off the bottom lip of the grill, because with it raised, it was contacting the bottom of the PTO.

Overall it looks much better, but it's not right yet. Next thing will be to manipulate that air filter bracket a bit.

Looks good. The squeak you hear may be the joints on either end of the driveshaft. On mine there is a grease fitting on both ends. Mine looked like they Never were greased in there lifetime. Try pumping some grease in the fittings on the driveshaft and see if the squeak goes away.

Hey Paul, was the hood hitting on the air filter housing or radiator? I'm thinking if it was the air filter would it be possible to relocate the housing, like maybe next to the battery? I like the idea of possibly modifing the air filter housing mounts so that the clamping ring is not pointed straight up so high. By the way your pics look the radiator appears to b the highest thing.

From the looks of it the CV joint has probably never been greased so the balls inside are probably not happy. You also have a broken pump adapter flange. It also looks like it has a few oil leaks. I'd be planning on pulling the rear and pump out for a reseal job.

Thanks I will check that out...I didn't realize the driveshaft had grease fittings?

It does look like the radiator is highest...it's close, but the air filter bracket actually is. The next highest part is either the radiator cap itself, or the studs on each end of the radiator that stick straight up...they look like something for a rubber grommet to slide onto. I'll probably trim those two studs down, along with tweaking the filter bracket.

Could you point me towards one of those exploded diagrams that shows what the flange looks like? I actually was looking things over closely and tugging on the driveshaft trying to figure out what was chirping. Everything seems very snug, not much movement at all in the drivetrain.

Certainly will be doing a reseal job once I get things in order, along with your oil return hole modification and adding the braces you designed

Plans for now include re installing the cyclops pedestal and modifying the top edge of the plastic overlay to fit the 82 series hood. Unfortunately the plastic wasn't in the box of extra parts that came with the tractor, I need to contact the prior owner and see if he still has it.

Paul,
The progress is looking good. The seat is an aftermarket seat, not factory. As others have said, pump the CV's with grease and see if it helps. Had to do that to the 1782 when I first got it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the hood clearance until you get the cyclops pedistal back on. It seems the cyclops pedistal may be taller. Here is a pic of mine to compare with yours.

Ok great, thanks for that info. It really is a comfortable seat, don't know if I'm gonna reuse it on this tractor, but I'm going to make sure it goes on something around here, maybe my 1282.

Wow, that's a major difference...might hafta add even more shims to the front grill haha. That picture really helps, thanks...I can see I'm gonna need to drive this thing to your house and compare them side to side

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
