Hey, all

Made it safe and sound to Orlando with the family; been following the post as I went. Sam, it's welcome BACK to the cyclops club; this will be #3 after the 1641 and the other 2084. I'm just soo tickled with it because unlike Adam's new smoker, I waited and waited for a 93 or 94 WITHOUT the fender flares, the plastic tunnel cover and without the sealed-beam headlights (just personal preference). I like mine just the way it sits - let those big rear tires stick out the sides - this is a man's tractor and it should look it, too!

Yes, I do want to pull the motor and get into the steering and driveshaft CVs. If I have read the other posts correctly, they take a special CV grease? And yes' Paul S, I have been learned on the half throttle or better shut-down policy. The last 2084 had 2 blown heads @ 580 hrs that may have been caused in part by the backfiring issue. I'm no fan of the carbs on these Commands, but that's what we have to work with. I did notice as I was putting it away on Friday that it was smoking a bit, I couldn't tell if it was oil or fuel or both; the green guy had just changed the oil and may have overfilled a bit or it may be a little rich on the fuel side. I see to remember my other 2084 as always being a bit on the rich side below half throttle, but its carb was trashed on the low speed side and I never could get it to idle. I guess the motor COULD be worn at 824 hrs but for as we'll as the tractor appears to have been maintained, I would be surprised if that was the case. Even so, it's in great condition and I wouldn't hesitate to rebuild or replace the command (with a 22?).

The rear end bolts are tight and were checked at sale, but I'm still gonna pull this tractor down to the tower and clean and go over everything as I do with all my long-term Cubs. Gonna check with the sponsors about a hood, but everything else should buff/wax up. What do you guys use for the best results on the plastic?

It's bad, but I want vacation to get over with so I can get home to my Cubs!

105 welcome back to the dark side. Grease for the CV joints, I use Mobil1 but I do grease them a couple times a year. So far no issues. Shut down, I let them cool down a bit then I pull the choke at the same time that I turn the key off, no back fires. My 2284 will back fire even with the fuel shut down solenoid if I don't do it this way.
On a side note it seems that the once maligned Cyclops are getting a whole lot of respect lately. Nice to see people realize what an outstanding tractor they are. I like to think of them as the last of the best.

Ben

I still can't get over how nice that looks. Are you sure that pic wasn't taken when it was new?

Ben, thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if I can find that or something similar at the autoparts store. BTW, you're killing me with that pic of the flare-less smoker. Glad it found a friend recently!

Sorry bout being over zealous on the particulars of the 2084. I did not realize I was preaching to the choir. Lol. I guess it is better to go into fine detail than wish I had. My 2084 has over 1200 hrs on it and is going strong. I did have smoke at one point but it was oil leaks from the breather, bolts loose, cracks in the valve covers and an oil seal that was so worn it nearly fell out. I make it a point anymore to go all over the engine and make sure all the bolts are tight once in the spring and once in the fall. You already have a 22 horse power engine in your 2084. The 18, 20 and 22 horse power engines are all the same except for the carb.

Your welcome, hope it works as good for you. I kind of like the flare-less look too, I hate to hide those big firestones!! Though the flares might be nice when I'm rollin coal pulling the plow and spin out

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
