Default Hello

Thank you for letting me be here.
Recently found a 1974 Cub Cadet 129 in a garage.
The lady said to just take it
It is missing the one plate from the block to the muffler.
Everything seems to be there.
The starter motor is in being rebuilt presently.
Any suggestions on how to check it out from this point?
And it came with a 3 blade mower deck.
I have downloaded some manuals for it.

Awesome find! I'd just give it a good tune up and get it running then find out the rest of the condition. Once you get it running, try to move it with the hydro. If it moves okay, then you'll want to change the rear end fluid and filter. Use a new rear cover gasket dry and replace the fluid with genuine Hytran and a Cub Cadet filter.

Grease everything really good and take it for a spin. Post a wanted ad in the proper forum and I'm sure someone wil have the muffler plate you need.

Good luck!
Keith

Your 129 is a Wide Frame Cub. They are one of the easier Cubs to work on.
The missing plate can be purchase from one of sponsors on the top of the page.
A few things I would do to your 129 is drain the gas, change the oil in the motor and do a tune up. Not sure what manuals you have.... I would suggest a Kohler manual for the motor and a service manual for your 129. You can download a free Kohler service manual from this site:
http://www.kohlerengines.com/common/...es/tp_2379.pdf

A service manual can be purchase from Binder Books http://www.binderbooks.com/ for the rest of the tractor.

Do be afraid to ask any question(s). There are several here who can help you out.
I have a 149 that was new in 1974.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
