Question 882 glow light indicator

I am some what dumb founded with my little diesel... I can not get the glow light to come on when I try to start it. I cycle it 60 seconds several times.
I have found that when I first bought the tractor it would come on ... very dimly... now 4 years later no light. I found that if I have my block heater on for a hour I can start the tractor even though the glow isn't lit. I can not start the tractor cold at 50 degree outside temperature. I have changed out the 4 glow plugs with new ones and change the light indicator with a new one too.. Puzzled?! Any Ideas?
opps.... forgot I am not a good diesel mechanic soooooo....

i would first start with a test light when u try to glo the plugs are you getting power at the glo plugs? would certainly recommend the glo plug relay upgrade

For this problem, you need to be an electrical guy, not a diesel mechanic. Time to dig out a test light and a DVOM and find out where you do not have power.

The engine only has 3 glow plugs..... I don't know where you installed a fourth one at.

Lightbulb glow light indicator

I tried to put the fourth plug under my cap... but did not connect any wires leading to the big computer! Any ways where would find the glo plug relay? ....a Kubota dealership possibly? I will check out the electrical part.... this week.

The original set up on these diesels didn't use a relay. The glow plug system ran through the key. A very poor design. It puts too much load on the switch (not a cheap replacement) and tended to burn it up. I suggest re-wiring it so that it uses a relay. Here check out this thread, I gave a descriptive answer to wiring up a relay in it. Better than re-typing it all. (Post #8)

Would it not be easier to replace the ignition switch than rewire it? I am sure you are right on the relay switch....

Your tractor, you can do it however you want. I'd install a relay.

I think I will do both... I have not read the entire post that you recommended .... is there a wiring diagram for the placement of the relay?

Funny you ask that! I just got off the phone with R Bedell, and he is going to try and get a diagram drawn up and uploaded to the site for that modification soon!
