I stopped and checked out a car for a friend ....Oh Boy!!!
A buddy asked me to stop on my way home from work and look at a 96 Grand Am he is considering buying. I look at it,the interior is rough, has 149,000 miles on it but has a lot of new parts. Asking a bit much for it,but body is straight. Then the problem arises....I look at the corner of the garage toward the back and think I spot a QL style tractor. I look at the car,but can't keep myself from looking over at it. The owner of the car sees I am looking at the front end of the tractor and says that's just an old Cub Cadet.I refrain from asking to look at it knowing I am strapped at the moment and can't afford it anyways. So he says the baddest thing to me..."Go check it out!" I think, but head over to it like a magnetic field...Peep around the corner and man there it sits..Pretty nice looking tractor with a 40 some size mower deck, and 1 flat tire. He comes up and asks what I think.I say it looks ok and tell him I have a 1200 that has a big time smoking motor. He says make an offer, I tell him my deal of no extra cash and he says, "Well, you wont offend me as it was given to me with a car a guy traded to me". He then says it runs, but needs 2 tires or tubes, and a battery. He doesn't want it anyways and probably will take the same amount as scrap price for it. He says to stop back this week and make an offer as he'd like to see someone who would use it for parts,Then asks me if the motor etc will work on mine. I play cool and say yes it would. But, I didn't tell him I would do that to this tractor. So I will drop by this week and see what he has in mind. We may be making a swap as he needs a car hauled 25 miles and I could use my trailer so I may have a good freebie deal.Who know???
Oh BTW, the tractor is an 800 QL with 1 inch front spindles and a Brinly hitch...Pretty straight sheetmetal and the motor seems to turn free and has compression. All the pieces are there too..

I'm sure you know less than 2,400 made in 1975 only and if made after Nov 3 ,1975 would make it a wet brake tractor...more rare! The K-181AQS has it's own style gear starter, breather and casting for the muffler box. NOS parts for this engine is through the roof and nearly impossible to find! Ask anyone that owns one or has owned one...I have owned one, brought it home missing the breather, starter and engine side covers.

You mean like this one I have sitting in my garage?? I am trying not to get my hopes up but keep having it run through my head. What I would really like to do is remove the motor and have the fender pan as well as the side shields powdercoated red and put them on the red tractor I am building for my grand son,but this tractor is too complete to tear apart. The only thing that would deter me from fixing it up is if the motor were bad, then of course,I wouldn't put it on Carson's tractor. Figured if I could pick it up, I'd sell the sleeve hitch and lift at least,to get some money to tune it or tires or whatever.I didn't look to see if the brakes were internal or not,but the starter, air cleaner and muffler box are there and seen good shape, looks wise. The drama will end by the middle of this week.Just what I need...another tractor...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
