Picked up a whole TEW gasket set, including valve stem seals, crank seals, and all the rest for something like 40 bucks. Needed to swap exhaust and the oil filter remote gasket (haven't found that anywhere cheaper than about 13 bucks) anyway. Will just stash away what I don't need for the next time.

Don't change the seals unless they are leaking. Not just because "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but also because anyone who changes engine seals knows that if they aren't leaking, and you change them, they will leak. Doesn't always happen...... but it happens a lot. You think "Oh, I'll do it while I'm here." Then you have to do it again because you didn't get it in right, or the new seal isn't as good quality as the old. Nope. If it's good..... LEAVE IT ALONE!

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Your call, I'm sure anyone who's knowledgeable about where to get the best parts from can help you. If you know the part is same quality or better and you can put it in without issue I don't see why not. i can tell you that I change out all if I'm there because I hate doing things twice no matter what I do.

It all depends on the reason the seal failed if it did.
if the cause is not determined and corrected a second seal will fail. Also depends of the reputation of a particular seal brand or the application and usage, and how it is installed. Then there is the position of the moon/stars/ high tide or low tide or if you slept at a holiday inn sexpress with a mechanics divorced sister in law's cousin, once removed, but only in the state of Mexifornia. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
