Starting the assembly of my 128 K301
I received my governor gear and cross shaft yesterday from Chris Westfall. This is what I have been waiting for. Well waiting for the $$ to get it ordered..LOL. I took a few pics and will post them thru my progress in the assembly. If someone see's something I have done wrong or could do different please feel free to speak up. Better to catch it now than later.
Governor and cross shaft: Got the cam installed and marked the timing mark with some white paint:

The cam end play should fall between .005/.020
We have .007 well within spec Marked the Crankshaft timing mark: Aligning the Camshaft and crankshaft timing marks. Took me 2 or 3 times to get it right, LOL: Got the bearing plate installed and setting up to check Crankshaft end play: End play should be between .003/.020. I ended up having to install 3 gasket shims: Finally obtained a .010 reading:

Thanks a lot Jeff, I enjoy doing stuff like that. Been awhile since I have tinkered with a motor.

Im surprised greatly that no one spoke up about the plastic gov gear. Go for the cast iron gear if you can find it!

I figure the original plastic gear lasted 37 years of weekly use, this should do fine. It will see some use, but not like it used too. What I have to find is a cast iron deep sump oil pan. I don't like the aluminum one. It has some wear at one of the frame bolt holes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
