Default 12 Hp 301 Gov & carb questions for 1st start up

Just about the fire up my new motor, Question What holes does the GOV spring go in on both arms?

Also IS there a procedure for dummies to adjust the 2 screws on the carb?

I see the chart that shows the Factory recommended starting position

thank you

Dave

There are two sets of holes.... one on the throttle arm, and one set on the governor arm. "Factory" setting on the governor arm is third from the bottom. On the throttle arm, it's wherever you need it to get the adjustment on the dash to your liking.

As far as tuning the carb, you set the initial setting and tune it from there. Every motor is different, so no, we can't help you. You have to figure it out and tune it to run in the best location. The engine service manual tells you where and how to set the governor spring location, how to reset the governor (which is you have not, you MUST set before start up) and how to tune a carb. You really need to read the book. The PDF file is in the Tech section, just say if you can't find it and we can post a link.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
