482 engine and carb identification
Can anyone help me identify this engine and carb in my 482? The blower housing where the number is supposed to be stamped is missing. It should be a Briggs 11 hp from about 1982-84. The carb appears to be a Walbro, but there is no number on it. I would really like to find a kit for this carb. Also, what powers the fuel pump attached to this carb? Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with the numbers, but I can tell you that the fuel pump is operated by crankcase vacuum. One of the barbed fittings on the plastic part of the carb is the fuel inlet, and the other is the vacuum line.

Briggs and Stratton made their own carbs.
Best thing you can do is find a Briggs and Stratton service/repair manual. |

Gary that is called a "cross-over flow-jet"
It was used on model series 253400, 255400 engines. This has an integral fuel pump, { works off its own vacuum] The fuel pump can be rebuilt also I don't have the numbers as to the parts diagram I have tho. Kit part number for the inlet seat is #394683 this may be helpful to the counter man. He should have the parts list for the fuel pump if needed.

Gary1930:
First, welcome to our Forum......... According to the charts, the 482 rolled off the line with this: Motor: B & S HP: 11 Model: 253417 Spec: 0632 With that data, you can simply look up, (either on paper or online) the correct parts and kits for this B&S Motor.

Thanks for the help on the numbers.
I rebuilt the carb and fuel pump. It will start, but only runs for a couple of seconds before dying. It is getting fuel to the carb, so I assume the pump is working. Nothing with the rebuild kit told me what initial settings to try, so I have been blindly adjusting both screws, but nothing helps. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
