K301 crankshaft snout -thread size-
Hello
I recently aquired my first Cub Cadet. A 129 that's in pretty decent shape. My question is: what is the thread and size of the crankshaft snout internal thread (PTO end, aka at the front of the tractor). I think mine had it's threads just a little mushed up near the beginning. (I'll be doing some starter/pto basket pulley fixing.) I may have missed it in the online manuals.....so any help would be great. Fantastic sight too. I've been browsing it for the last two weeks (since I got the 129). |

I want to say it's either 3/8" NF or 7/16" NF, but I can't remember. The 129 doesn't have anything that threads in there, so I'm not sure why you're worrying about it in the first place

I may need it to reinstall the PTO bearing after I fix the starter-gen/PTO pulley assembly. I still have to pull the PTO bearing yet though. I will be borrowing the appropriat puller from a co-worker. |

I'm still not sure why you'd need it...nothing mounts to it. The bearing locks to the OD of the crankshaft.

Possibly for reinstalling the bearing. To "pull" it back on with my automotive harmonic balancer install tool, or perhaps just a capscrew the correct size/thread etc.

OK. I have looked through the nice service manuals from the section on this forum. I could not find anything specific to the PTO bearing installation regarding a slip fit or press fit. I made the mistake of assuming at least a slight press fit. I guess mine is just rusted on, and there is no press fit whatso-ever for the PTO bearing to crankshaft snout. I guess that makes sense, that's what the eccentric lock collar behind it is for.
Sorry for sounding like such a NOOB. Thanks guys for clearing this up. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
