Default Cub 100 starting problems

hey guys neeeding some help here
my 100 has been working great plowing snow all winter last time i plowed it started very hard weather is warming up so i decided to try and start it again yesterday and its not wanting to start
when it does start after turning over like crazy it runs rough then quits
when i put this together last spring i replaced points, condenser , coil ,plug,
plug wire , and rebuilt the carb
i have always heard on here to check the ground so i will do that today
i guess what my question is do you guys think i could have got moisture in the points will that happen ? or does it sound like a fuel problem ?? ground ? any info would be great thanks in advance !!! Bob

After it starts, how long does it run before it dies?

tried starting fluid too dosent seem to help it either gonna start or its not thats why im leaning tward a spark issue im thinking maybe all that snow plowing allowed some moisture into the points but not sure if that would cause this ??

I would check the fuel line and fuel filter for blockage first. Sometimes rust can from the fuel tank can cause a blockage. Second, I would check/replace the ignition coil. Sounds like it is breaking down. I don't know how to check a coil, but I am sure someone else does. Third, check your timing along with your points. Information on the procedure can be found in the Tech section.

"turns over like crazy" if it's spinning abnormally fast, a burnt exhaust valve can cause extremely hard starting and running. Check compression with your thumb over the plug hole.
Good luck finding and fixing your problem!

That's not necessarily going to tell him much...I once had an engine that easily passed the 'thumb over the spark plug hole' test but wouldn't start. It turned out the piston was cracked.

We are all grasping at straws because you haven't given us a whole lot to go on. Do you have good, consistent spark? Is the timing set right? Do you have fresh, clean gas in the tank? Good fuel flow to the carb?

Default Coil

Go to your auto parts store and get a coil with a built in resistor for 12 volts. Try it, I see no sense in paying $40 + for a coil from Kohler. I know, I did the same thing, mine didn't work so good either. A parts store coil probably cost $15.00 or so. Better yet, borrow one off a vehicle and see what happens. You need one with a resistor so you don't burn up your points.

The coil for an old air-cooled VW has an internal resistor and will work on a CC.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
