Release button popped off
The release button on my 129 popped out today while I was plowing snow. As a result, the plow fell off the tractor. I found the button in the snowbank, so that's good at least. How does it go back on? Do I just thread it back on? The spring is inside the handle still and the float button is still there as well.
Seems like every time I pull the old girl out I'm finding a new weak link in the chain. |

Had one apart a year or two ago, but don't remember the details. Pull up the parts book off of Cadets site, should be an exploded parts view.

Thanks, that helps.I found this diagram. I guess I just need to push the button down far enough I can thread it back on.

You might need to lift and hold rod #5 up as high as you can get it, and then with your other hand start threading the button back onto the rod. You'll have to push the button down a bit while you're threading it into place, there's a spring in there that needs to be compressed. Once you've gotten it on a few threads, you won't have to hold the rod up anymore. BTDT a couple of times!

Thanks, everyone. I got it back on, I pushed the rod back up and stuck a screwdriver in the bottom to hold it up and it screwed right back on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
