Whoa! An IH 982???
Yeah, I did it. Was still feeling bad about letting that IH-built 782 go after having it for hours and not days. Figured something would come along to make up for it if I kept my eyes and ears on guard...
How about an IH-built 982 to take it's place? Cat-0 3 point but no PTO, a nice 50C deck, books, and chains and a WH snowblade that the PO swears goes on to the tractor 'real easy' Working hour meter shows 673 hrs, but could be 1273, too. Who knows Oh, and I love the lazy-boy seat. That sealed the deal. It also has a replacement Linamar LX790 20HP engine that looks and sounds as good as the Onan should have. I have plenty of love for the green Onans that make electricty, but the ones I have seen in Gravelys and Cub 982s just don't seem to make the cut for very long, not to mention parts are expensive and getting harder to find. Just as well that it's been replaced here, although I had never heard of Linamar until today. Looks to be a good sturdy tractor; you just can't beat the rugged look of a 982. Did I really need to buy it? No, but couldn't pass this one up. I don't think I'll have any use for the 3 point...

Nice find! From what I know the Linamar is an exact replica of the Onan P220, so parts are still going to be expensive for it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
