Saturday's Deal: 782 and cart (video)
I had been emailing back and forth with a guy who was selling his dad's 782. It was bought new but had been sitting since about 2008 when his dad got too bad off to use it anymore. It's my first IH-built 782. 423 hours on the working meter, red rear and front axle, clean Kohler KT17 Series I. It had been stored in the garage it's whole life, but defineatly had been well-used for the number of hours that were on it. I found everything to be well greased and free, plus it had all 4 hubcaps and the owners' manual.
He kept asking me if I would take an old trailer that was used with the tractor. Come to find out, it was a rough but useable #2 cart; a nice consolation prize since there was no side panels or grille. Got it all home, and started this morning by tasking the boys on the cement that was left in the cart and scraping the 44C deck, which was in really nice shape. I put a fresh battery in, touched up the points, and cleaned the carb and drained the old gas. She came to life as soon as the fuel primed, no smoke, and did everything she was supposed to do. The deck runs smooth and quiet, and the hydro ain't too bad, either. Don't know what I'm going to do with it, as I already have a real nice red CCC782 with the Series II. As soon as it dries out here, I'll load-test it in the field to get a better idea of how solid it is... Video: http://youtu.be/EPR-cn9ntqU

Great 782 score! I have been looking for a deal like that one for years. Every now and then, one like this comes up. It needs to be preserved.
I hope you enjoy this machine. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
