Default SHHH!! (Quietline Purchase)

Don't tell anybody, but I bought a 1450 today. Came up on CL on Sunday, and I didn't have to work today, so I went for a ride, and it came home with me. Only had one pic of the right side on CL, so I asked for more pics and he sent me one of the rear end. He failed to mention that it also had a sleeve hitch and a right-angle gearbox for a tiller. It was a one-family tractor that his late grandfather had bought new locally and DID have a tiller at one time (along with a snowblower) but those attachments were snatched early after the estate was split up. The tractor was a little rougher than I usually prefer, but the ISO mounts were tight and it looks to have a new oil pan on it, so I can only hope that they've been done once already. The 38" deck was odd, but he told me it was used for a 1/3 acre yard most of it's life. Musta had a big garden... Also got a looks-like-never-read operators' manual for Quietlines and two IH dealer accessories brochures that have everything under the sun for CC garden tractors and the tools to fix them (even IH roll-away toolboxes!). Even got a brand-new steering wheel logo sticker for the early Quietline and 1x8/9 series wheels that he had bought in 1981 but never put on (will look nice on my 149).

Not bad for what I paid, it runs well, lift and pto work well, hydro is tight with no creep, good wideframe battery hold-down; just missing the boot for the one headlight (heck he still had the second headlight from when it fell out). Even got a neat keychain. Steering is nice, muffler box needs gone through, but don't they all? Now, what to do with that tiller mount????

NICE
I think a tiller will be a "Must Have" for that tractor.

I like it too! Great score too!

You must have the tiller gear box my extra tiller is missing. Those are always in demand.

"...The tractor was a little rougher than I usually prefer..."

You must have a lot of Cub choices in your area.

Yeah, really! That 1450 looks great!

And it sounds like the previous owner was a detail guy, so that's a good sign.

I was gonna say to ,that the 1450 looks pretty good to me too! Seen a heck of alot worse! I would be finding a tiller too! That is the smallest deck I have seen on a 1450,think I would upgrade to a larger one myself.

Wow, sure is a lot of love all of a sudden for a Quietline!! Yes, I guess I am a little spoiled living in the Mid-Atlantic region where we are in prime Cub Country. I have always done well in PA, most of my good finds have come from there. I am trying to treat my yellow fever by not buying EVERYTHING I go to look at... and yes, the 1450 IS in pretty good shape overall; it really cleaned up well after a bath and some wiping down!

I pulled the 38" deck and tried to put a 50A on it, but realized that I need the proper mule drive for an A-series deck. I'll deal with that later, it can run the 38" for now (although it does look odd) or I have that older 48" QA that came with the 125... it might look stranger yet with the gauge wheels and old-style deck runners.

Don't get me wrong - it's a good find so far - I've seen them a lot better and a whole lot worse!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
