Oil Leak
so my k321 is leakin oil somewhere, and the only place that i can see it dripping from is the govenor shaft. Is that even possible and if so, is it an easy fix or do i have to tear the motor down, again... thanks in advance

Im amazed that its leaking from there. If need be, replace the brass threaded bushing. It can be done on the tractor, from the outside of the engine. Just, after youre done set the governor per the kohler k series manual. Its super straight forward.
there are no o rings in that bushing. No seals whatsoever. It could be egged out, I dont know. I dont know if overfilling would even help it come out there. that would cause a foaming problem, which leads to underlubing and engine failure. Hope Thats not it.

You might try installing a new brass nut. The shaft is steel so the bore of the nut should wear out before the shaft does. I would try that first I guess. That might save you a tear down. I would check the crank case breather to make sure it is functioning properly.

I know it isn't easy to see up in there, but can you get a good picture of the leak?

I have tried to get a picture of it, but it is virtually impossible. Im just glad that its a simple fix, i have crawled all over that engine, and that is the only place that is wet with oil. Thanks for all the advice guys!

I had the same problem after a rebuild on my 12 HP Kohler.
Oil leaking out the governor shaft bushing. WTH, it never leaked before the rebuild. During the rebuild I inspected the bushing. No wear that I could tell/measure even. A new bushing installed...still leaked. I finally had a few hours of runtime on the rebuilt engine. Good time to check valve lash. Took all the cover, baffle, reed valve apart to get to valve lifters. Check out lash, and tweek slightly. Put it all back together. I run the engine and guess what, no more leaking around the governor shaft bushing. Somehow the reed valve was sticking. My big clue should have been the slight spitting of oil out of the oil dipstick tube, when running. Crankcase pressure had no place else to go. A side effect was forcing oil out the governor shaft bushing. Just something to check. Who knows, it could happen to somebody else. Best of luck. Cheers.
