Picked up an 1811 last night.
I saw this one pop up on my radar last evening. It was basically right in my back yard, $100. It has a good complete hood, and 50" deck. Engine runs though has a loud tin/muffler rattle and a leaking mag end crank seal on the Kohler M18, and a (well lubed surface) 50C deck in pretty good shape. Only downside is 1950 hours on the clock. I don't know if this is the original engine, or if it was rebuilt. It runs good, and does not smoke. This will most certainly be a parts machine anyway. I couldn't let that one sit for $100 and 30 minutes of driving. When I got there the seller told me if I didn't take it he had 20 other people that texted or called that wanted to come right away.

Congrats on a good deal. Why not clean it up and fix the leaks?

With those hours it’s probably better served as a parts machine. I had someone looking for a hood and wanted me to let him know if I get one, so basically that’s already spoken for. It’s not as ugly as the 1863 I got cheap, but it would take a lot of lipstick. I have no need for it other than for parts.

I removed the off topic "snarky crap" and getting back to the original topic.
For those that want to argue, inject personal opinions, and toss jabs, there is this feature called Private Message (PM). You can jab each other to your hearts content. Back to the regular scheduled posting.

I'm with Tim, I'd check it out well before I parted it out. My 1811 has pretty high hours but overall the machine is rather tight. Some of the items we replaced on it were also changed on much "less experienced" machines. Sometimes I just don't know how much to trust those hour meters.
Yours, do as you wish. If I were near you, and IF I thought I would ever get around to it I'd be interested in the Magnum to replace the well ventilated KT in my 682.

Hey John, Durham NC is only about a 10 hour drive. I've been down that way before to Duke Hospital. I will probably take it all apart and clean it up and see whats leaking and maybe fix it before I ultimately decide what to do with the engine. Is there any way to figure out if it's the original engine? I still would have no idea what hours are actually on it if it's not the original or a rebuild.

You can take the top off the air cleaner and have a look see.
If it it's wet in there with oil, it might have high hours but if it is only moist and not dripping, it has lower hours. Clean it up in there, change the engine oil and mow with it once (4 hours) and you can pretty much tell what condition the engine/ rings are in. Those old mag engines run a long time if the oil was changed and air cleaner kept clean. |

I can’t believe I missed snarky comments. Dang
It was a good deal at the money you spent, no matter what you decide to do.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
