Tiller looks rusty but surface. I can't see the blower. What shape is it in? Post more pictures!
I have a 1450 that I got as a basket case. It came with a #2 tiller, wheel weights a 44" deck in very poor condition and a Brinley box scraper. I got the package for $300. I put more than that in the tractor. Most would have parted it out but Cubs are rare here in California. I use it around my house and we till the garden with it in the spring every year. You'll like that 1650 when you get it running. Read the threads on Quietlines and hydros. These tractors are pretty simple and easy to work on. Soon you'll have the fever like the rest of us. |

I'll get more pictures posted tonight when I get to work (better reception), blower is rusty and has a few love marks but seams to be fine, it spins.
Also has a 44in? Mower deck. Where do I look for the date? And how do you read the hour meter? |

After bringing home several (10?) non-running Cubs, here's what I would do with it--
1. get it running. Disassemble and clean the carb. If you have an IH dealer nearby, pick up a rebuild kit for the carb, but it's not mandatory for this quick and dirty exercise. Drain and refill the fuel tank, and get clean fuel to the carb. Put the carb back on. 2. crank the engine with the plug out and lying on top, touching a head bolt (or otherwise ground it) to check for spark. If no spark, pull the points cover and clean the contacts. That solves 80% of the no spark issues. 3. With a spark, put the plug back in and crank it, with some fuel squirted in the carb if needed. All of my ran at this point. 4. If it sparks and doesn't run, come back on here for more troubleshooting advice.

2) It is not your typical hour meter...it is a maintenance minder. The operator's manual will explain how it functions. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/pdf/QL%20Op%20Manual.pdf

Thanks for the tips, my main goal will be to get it running. Not wasting time with the rest until I know it will run.
Previous owner said it stop running while mowing and he put in a resistor and still nothing. So not sure what the problem is. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
