LTX 1040 timed deck blades and belt?

I have an older, low hours LTX 1040 with the timed deck. It has been pretty reliable for the past 5 years but I hit a dog rope toy my kids threw in a pile of leaves. The rope wrapped around the blades and threw off the timing belt causing the blades to hit each other, heavily damaging them.

The timing belt survived the incident but I need new blades. Is there a shorter blade set for this mower that I can use to avoid the timing in the event the timing belt skips again?

The deck also uses a shorter deck drive belt that the non-timed version. Does anyone know the length of the belt. Most of the part info I can find on the LTX doesn't list the pre 2009 version info.

I don't think you've got a timed deck as you speak of.
And shorter blades will do you no good. You'll be leaving uncut grass between the blades. Could you put up some pictures of the mower, and damage you speak of?
I looked the LTX 1040, and it shows it's built between 09-14, in that series, pictures would help.

Kids will be kids. Now you know to check the piles of leaves.

The answer is no. The blades have to be long enough to overlap each other or it will leave uncut grass behind. You will also need to replace the timing belt, if it skipped once it will skip again and ruin your new blades. I speak from experience because my neighbor had one I worked on, she hit something and it did the same thing yours did, the belt looked fine so I put it back in time and it only made it about two minutes before the blades started hitting again. I installed a new belt and it was fine after that. I got her an off brand belt from eBay for about half the money and she mowed with it for two years until the engine blew.

Make sure the mounts for the spindle housings are still tight/not broken. Friend of mine had a Cadet with a timed deck and somehow his housings got messed up.

Well I be darned. Didn't know these newer machines used a timed deck. When did they go back to them?
