Default 129 project

Just pulled home a 129. I got it for FREE from my neighbor. It's going to need a lot of work if I choose to do so. The engine is in pieces and looks like a total rebuild. It also has a 48"+ deck. My neighbor says he has the hood somewhere and will get it to me when he finds it.

The blade does not belong with the tractor. But the neighbor said to take it. I think it belongs to a narrow frame?????

I sure hope it had automatic hydro valves and you didn't pull it too far or too fast.

No offense but why do some of you feel the need to scare people with that crap? I've pulled hydro tractors hundreds of feet behind an ATV and never had any issue's, my 1811 was probably the quietest hydro I've own and it was pulled about 500ft to where I could get it loaded on my trailer.

That's a great tractor, especially for free.

The blade should go on it as long as you get the correct subframe. Do you have a subframe?

I'm with Tim. If they roll, and you aren't pulling them fast, you aren't going to hurt them. Automatic or manual valves, it doesn't matter. If the hydro hasn't been ran in long enough of a time, there isn't any fluid left in the (hydrostat) motor to keep it from rolling. I've pushed/pulled tractors that have been sitting years that had manual valves and never pressed them in. Haven't tore one up yet. But.... it can happen. Looks like he pulled it on a trailer anyway.

OP:
That blade will fit your 129. Someone took the subframe off of it, and made another piece to go in its place. All you need is the frame, and it will work.

I realize what can happen when you pull a hydro w/o the valves depressed. But I also have done this enough and haven't ruined one yet. I do appreciate the concern.
Thanks for the info on the blade. I do not have a sub frame for it.
After further digging, the piston has a score along with the cylinder wall. The head is also missing a chunk.. I never saw that kind of damage to a head before. I'll post a picture later.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
