Default 1872 driveshaft virbration?

I recently had some motor mount bolts work loose & after fixing them I noticed the driveshaft vibration. Looks pretty bad to me. I originally thought the bolts came loose because of a mower deck i tried, but now thinking its the driveshaft. I didnt find anything loose, I guess I need to take it all apart again, take driveshaft out & see if it is bent. Any suggestions on what to look for, how to fix?

Do NOT run that again until it's repaired. That looks like imminent failure.

Something is worn in the front coupler / flange. It should "look" round when it's running, not oscillating.

My guess is the ball on the engine end is gone. My luck with driveshafts goes something like this--save the fan and the bolt that holds it in, the rest is trash. Maybe your luck will be better.

Don't run it.

You have 2 options. Replace with original type parts or change up to the better CV type system.

Original design:

New pump coupling.
https://www.ihccw.com/drive.html?product_id=1433
https://www.messicks.com/part/903-1066/arm-w-bushin

4 New Flex Disc joints.
https://www.messicks.com/part/722-30...-coupling-disc

New drive shaft. (save the existing couplings on the drive shaft and reuse)
Jeff makes very nice ones or you can make your own.

Probably a good time to change the fan too.
https://www.messicks.com/part/931-3013/fan-cooling

Drive shaft engine flange.
https://www.messicks.com/part/903-0204/flange-assy

Or

Talk to Jeff about what it will take to convert over to the CV system

That's a lot of money to dump into an older machine but you won't have to worry about it for a long time with either type system. Good luck.

Thanks all. I have emailed Jeff asking what it will take to switch to the CV or barrell style driveshaft.

Is there a direct replacement CV style driveshaft from another model that will fit the 1872? Is the spline on the pump a coarse spline? Was looking for parts & the adapter comes in fine & coarse.
Thanks

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
