Default The fleet's getting bigger

I went off the deep end and brought home another one this week. A 1988 model 1806, the last and largest manual trans Cub Cadet made. It has the creeper gearbox so it's, theoretically, a 6 speed. It also has what appears to be a NF 3-pt hitch adapted to fit. It runs and drives but has issues so it'll sit a while until I have some time to diagnose everything.

While there is no question that this was the most powerful manual trans Cub made, it was not the last. I have a relatively rare 1989 1050 which uses the shaft driven aluminum cased 3 speed like the one in the 1806, but without the creeper unit. There was one last 3 speed manual trans with creeper unit Garden Tractor Cub made in the Cyclops era: The rare 1990-1991 1535 which used essentially the same exact driveline as the 1806, but the "15HP" was a Kohler M18S with a smaller restrictive carb to bring down the peak rated power. Same exact engine otherwise...

Ah, did not know that. Thanks for the headsup. The 1806 was also available in 1989 I believe so they were co-existant. I had not heard of the 1535.

Thumbs up

You're welcome. Hope the issues with it are not extreme, and glad it has gone to a good home, and not parted out.

Congratulations on having a weak moment. Looks good from here.
Who says being weak is a bad thing.

It's definitely not, but because I am weak when it comes to these tractors, that 682 needed to come home with me to be saved from scrappage.

Yes, still have it. I wouldn't want to loose the hydraulics.

That is One thing I would never want to loose either, Once You Have Had Hydraulic lift You never want to go back to Manual lift and electric lift always seems to slow.

But sort of wish IH Had Made an electric lift Kit for the Later manual lift 82 series and the MTD had Made one for the Later Gear Drives or Manual lift tractors

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
