I'm not debating that, I was simply pointing out that it must be a super if it has a rear pto. It's possible the op gave us the wrong numbers or the tag has been changed for some reason.

Cub Cadet says it's a 1988 - 1812 Garden Tractor in one place, and the Parts Lookup site says it is a 1872. A picture of the Tractor would positively ID the thing.

Huh... another discrepancy.

My book shows an 1812 could be a model number 146-784-100, 147-670-100, 148-670-100, 149-670-100. Shows the 1872 as: 148 or 149-720-100.

I have another book, so I checked it. It shows the same, except it also shows the 1872 as also having the model 147-730-100.

I always find the discrepancies odd/interesting.

LOL.....Yup another discrepancy.

I suspect the list I have has a "Typo" in it and the OP has a 1872 SGT.

CCC for the years 1987, 1988, 1989 overlapped the 18HP tractors.

The 1806, 1810, 1811, & 1812 were GT's, and the 1872 was a SGT.

Here is an excerpt of the list I have. Notice in the list, there is no 1872 for the 1988 yr.

1872 List:
1987 = 147-720-100
1988 = No listing
1989 = 149-720-100

The "720" would most likely make it a 1872 SGT to follow in line with their code format.

So, I am guessing a typo or bad transforming of the list.

My friend tells me that the put on a new carburetor which i confirmed, changed all of the fluids including the hydro, sharpened blades and adjusted deck. They did not replace the rear tires which have dry rot and only one holds air. I suppose the hourly rate at the shop ran the bill up to the $450 level it is now. Still not sure what i am going to do. I really don't need another project, and i probably should save my money and spend it on necessary work on my Ford 601,
but i do know that this one is a rare bird.

Price is the rare part. If you don't want it, buy it and just resell it. You'll more than double your money. No-brainer for me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
