Default Winch mount to trailer

I posted this because of the post by Sam Mac on the Harbor Freight winch. I use and sometimes abuse them, and they still work fine. I wanted to mount my winch on my trailer and still be able to install it somewhere else without having to unbolt it. Sooooo,I came up with a quick mount. I took flat plates and welded pieces of 3/4" pipe to it (made it like a hinge), used a 3/4" bolt with the threads cut off and drilled a whole for a pin in the end so the pin won't come out. Bolt one plate to the trailer and the other to the winch. Made more receivers to bolt on other equipment, then just pull the pin and put it on something else (such as lift my snow plow up, on my log lifter and log skidder, etc.). I have a 120 amp/hr reserve capacity Battery (not shown in pics) that I use to power the winch when a vehicle with a battery isn't available or the battery is too far away. Works well for me.

Thats a great idea. I bought one also and will most likely make quick detachable mounts for various applications.

Thanks guys. They're easy to make and makes your winch universal and more useful.

I'll go up the beanstalk and steal a hinge off the Giant's door...:biggrin2

Kidding aside, that's very well thought out!

I really like that approach. I really didn't want the winch hanging on the trailer all the time because I estimate very infrequent use and I wanted it out of the weather. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder how many of us bought these $49 winches when Sam gave us the headsup?

Can you start a survey thread asking how many own such winches? It would be interesting to know.

Thats a good idea.....Buddy of mine did sort of the same but used hitch tubes and receivers....found a few old hitches laying out in the weeds at this guys place and cut em all up..put one on the front of his truck and one on his trailer..then bolted the winch to a plate welded onto 2.5" or 3" square tubing,(i forget what size they are)...same thing though, pull a pin....works nice...

I have the hitch tube and receiver setup on my log skidder, but the hinge type setup works better for my trailer because I have the box mounted and I didn't want it to stick into the bed of the trailer when I want to haul my tractor. I'm also going to work on something so I can attach the tractor to secure it when I haul it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
