Cub Classics is only about 30 minutes from me and Im off work tomorrow. May drive down and see him and pick up a new choke cable and carb rebuild kit. Might have this thing running good before the weekend is up!

That is a nice tractor. The 1864 is one the best made. I have 2.

WOO HOO!!! Finally got above freezing today so took the carb apart and cleaned it up. Still wouldn't run right so I started messing with the choke since I knew the cable was junk. Turns out the choke was stuck closed and due to the cable problems, it wouldn't open. Loosened the cable hold down so I could manipulate it by hand and she fired right up and runs perfect!! Choke cable is getting replaced as soon as a new one arrives I also changed the oil since a bit of gas got into the crank case.

Quick observations, just driving around the lot, this thing seems to have a ton more power than the 16HP Vanguard in my other Cub. 2HP sure makes a lot of difference. It also seems like it moves twice as fast, not that I do anything in which I need to move fast.

Now moving on to other things like getting it cleaned up. Probably going to add the rear end braces. Change trans fluid an filter, replace the fuel tank grommets and all the fuel lines. Clean up the fuel shut offs, etc. I also noticed a small hole in the back of the deck that will need fixed. Im going to put the snowblade on today so Ill be able to inspect the deck better once its out from under the tractor. New tires going on too.

Have I mentioned that power steering is sweet!! I did notice the steering wonders a bit. Ill have to look into that before spring. I have OCD and the lines in my yard have to be straight!!

Can you tell Im just a bit excited about my new tractor!?!

Take a look at the axle stop bolts under the front of the frame. How to adjust them is in the service manual I sent to you. Pic with red arrow pointing to the bolts, engine is out of this tractor. The bolt heads should be just touching the axle to keep it from moving fore and aft. You'll need a 3/4" open end wrench, back off the lock nut then screw the bolt in so it hits the axle then tighten the nut back up. Just make sure the bolt head is just up against the axle and not forcing it to the rear and do both sides even. Best to jack the front end up when you do it.

Thanks for the heads up. I was just thinking to myself, I remember reading something about an axle adjustment. Was getting ready to go read it again. Ill get that checked out.

I managed to get my tire chains on. Have never messed with chains before but I managed and they are relatively tight without using any bungie's. Also got the plow mounted up so Im ready to push snow.

Found several other minor issues. Ill get everything fixed up and Im sure Ill have plenty more questions as I go along. Thanks again guys!

Another question. This one may be dumb but Im still learning here.

There are 2 link arms that attach to the mule drive assembly and raise and lower the deck. I noticed the left side of the deck wouldn't raise all the way up. When I took the deck off, I found out why. The arm on the left side is missing. What is this part called and where can I get it? Its part 31 and 32 on Partstree but they don't list a part number and it says "not available".

Also, maybe even a dumber question but how do I get the one off? To remove the mule drive assembly, I just pulled the cotter pin for this link arm and now its just hanging. Its not in the way of the blade but it seems its probably not suppose to just be hanging there either.

If this dosnt make since, I can go out and take a couple pics.

If you lower the rockshaft all the way down, you can remove the cotter from the rockshaft arm and the link just slides off.

Cub site isn't loading for me right now, but check the sponsors at the top of the page. I remember seeing some links on one of the sites.

Need more info or pics. If you going to post item numbers from Parts Tree you also need to include a link to the page so we can see what your talking about.

Thanks shrew, that makes since. Dunno why that never crossed my mind.

Part 31 is the one that's missing but if I can find them, Id like to replace both sides as the right side is pretty worn.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
