Default Lt1050 pto ??

Any one managed to rebuild/repair a electric PTO on one of these fake cub cadet machines, by replacing the PTO bearings?

After just changing my motor ( big $$$ from a kohler sv730 to a kt 745), I found the PTO bearings are toasted, some of my noises i heard. I've spent time googling and youtubing to see if it' been done without much results, not much there. Two claimed to have done it one was a big hack job, an wound up with new anyway,

Two bearings can't be anywhere near the over $300 cost of a new one or close to $200 for a good aftermarket, not after dropping the $800 with shipping and small extras for the new motor. I'm living on a SS check and bama care for the wife.

The Cub Cadet PTO Clutch Assy (917-04163A) is $250.00 from Cub Cadet.

I done an Internet search, and I found prices on new clutches from $90.00 and upward.

By the time you spend all the time to find a replacement bearing, and do all the modifications, you may want to re-think this.

There have been a few threads posted here over the years where guys replaced the bearings in models such as 782, 1811, etc. I ASSUME yours is similar. You will probably see 4-8 places where the PTO was "staked" to keep the bearing from sliding out. You should be able to grind those completely away and knock out the old bearing. Should be a number on the old bearing that is most likely a common bearing that a GOOD one can be had for $15. I would find my bearing first if I could read the number.

Read this before proceeding.

Before I got this posted, Roland found a cheap clutch assembly. I'll still pass this along for reading with your early AM cup of coffee.

Xtreame has one on eBay for 120.00. That is a hard to beat price. How many hours on the old PTO?

thank you roland
the number is 917-04174A for this one, CC's online price is $398.34.that's my reason for wanting to try and fixit, is what it just cost me for a new motor. and a BOAT price for a controller and battery, for the whole house generator. i simply don't have it or the $180 for a Xtreme #: X0008-K right now. yet still need the machine for a remaining 1 or 2 leaf clean up's

saw the 5 peen marks holding the bearing in,that's a no biggie, dremel with a metal grinder cares for that just like those holding a front crank seal into the inside of the timing cover of a buick nailhead.
what worries me is if there is a big snap ring in there and it gets hurt pressing out the double D sleeve.

Well. since you made no mention of the Serial Number of the tractor, my research on the LT1050 was valid for a certain serial number range.

FULLY UNDERSTOOD, my question was wrongly by using the common model LT1050 a 50 inch deck model not the 13AQ11CP010 factory used model number or serial number

cc's web site shows item 20 for the single
Cub Cadet 917-04163A (replaces 717-04163)
Clutch, PTO
(Model LT1042) $275.16

item 21 for the twins
Cub Cadet 917-04174A (replaces 717-04174A)
Clutch, PTO
(Model LT1045, LT1046 & LT1050.. $398.34

How to change the bearing:

http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=43397

Pretty sure most PTO bearings are a 6206 bearing. Very common.

THANK YOU ALL
esp for the link.yes it can be done. if careful with the dremel to clean away close to 10 peen overs and press.
with out readable numbers to be found the bearings with help of the local AP store and a digital caliper we found them for 40 bucks , should have them tomorrow. with only 40 bucks out of pocket. i'm in better shape thanks to a super great bunch of people

this fix should be a long time one, but your help buys me time,at least till spring and a new Xtreme #: X0008-K

after working on this machine. it sure makes working on the 1966- 71. 1967 -102.the 1967-122. all a sweet easy dream job, ' save the hydros on the 78 1250" then they don't break, or rust away, they just slow down, smoke like bug machines but always run,

yes guys the wife did tell me i should sell one of the old ones, or a old car, NO WAY dear, you will go first.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
