Default LTX1040 - Issue with parking brake. Please help!

I was mowing up leaves last weekend and when I went to release the parking brake the lever would not release. The only way I could get it unlocked was to open the engine lid and pull up on the lever that has the locking mechanism. I verified the rod that connects the park brake lever was attached and connected to the locking mechanism; however it is not releasing the brake for some reason. It appears that it is not pulling it up enough. Whenever I fully depress the brake pedal, it automatically locks down now. It should only lock down when I depress the brake and push the parking brake lever down.

Any ideas on what could be causing this on my 2009 LTX?

Theres a bushing, plastic that wears some times on the brake shaft, also a cotter pin way up in there that if it catches right will do what your describing. Ive only seen that twice with the pin.

Default Fixed!

This was tricky to find... way up in the hidden area where the parking brake rod attached to the locking mechanism, there was a piece of think mulch that had wedged under the locking arm. This caused the arm to not be able to slide back far enough and the brake would lock every time it was depressed.

Thought I'd post up the fix in case anyone runs into this in the future.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
