Another 450 topic
Got an opportunity to pick up a 450 snowblower- looks to be in good or better condition-$400 though- coming off a 682, I'd run on my 782- how does it compare to the QA42A and is it worth $400? I'm leary that the heavy wet snows will plug my QA42 but haven't really heard people complain about the 450, other than being heavy. Kind of stretching my budget but if its worth the upgrade I'd spend it. Its local so not much travel required.

Well, went to check it out- looks pretty good, although the owner never used it- he picked it up after the huge snow we got in '11, then never used it, even with all the snow last year. Anyway, it looks as though the mounting frame slides onto the large QA bolts at the rear, and then bolts or pins THROUGH the front of the frame? His 682, was IH produced, had the holes at the front of the tractor frame, but my 782, also IH production, does not. I know Dad's 1811 has them. Would I have to add these holes to my tractor? How does the blower bracket attach to the tractor frame on these 450s? I passed on it for now....he said he had 3 other interested parties so I think it'll be gone but I'm curious if I could even reconsider it. I don't want to drill my tractor frame. I did not see studs for clipping into the QA mounts like the QA 42s do. Thanks

Not sure about the older IH built tractors but I have just gone through fitting the 450 blower to my 2082 and a 451 to my 2086 (both blowers have the same mount) . You are correct on your observation, the 450 slides on the shoulder bolt on the back of the mount and is held in place by a bolt threaded into the frame on the front. I was told that the front holes are threaded on some tractors and on the others require a bolt or weld nut on the back. I have an application guide for the CCC era tractors that shows the 450 blower will fit on the 782. There are no pins on my 450 blower for the QA style mount. As far as what they are worth, I just sold a spare 450 I had for $425, so $400 at least here in Pa. is a fair price and the 2 stage blower is far more effective in wet snow when compared to the QA42.
