When load is applied (like headlights) and engine not running, the ammeter should show discharge. Either battery is hooked up backwards or wires are reversed on ammeter.

Default 105 ammeter

It is wired like it was befor the problem, and it looks like the old meter was ok since the symptoms havn’t changed. It starts and runs well, but judging by the time battery takes to bring the battery up to full charge, it’s not charging. Bet a nickel I’m missing something simple.

It seems the tractor is running at a constant loss.what is going on ? And now it’s snowing—perfect
You gotta go to the wiring diagrams...

Make sure negative post of battery is going to frame. Easy to put these little batteries in backwards. They will start and run but not show charge. They show discharge but is is actually charging, it's just that the current flow is backwards. I just bought a 149 doing the same thing. Battery was backwards.

Meter only indicates charging, and only when the lights are turned on. Otherwise needle doesn’t move off zero. Heading out for another look at wireing connections soon.

The tractor is NOT wired correctly. See the previous post with the Wiring Diagram, download it, and make sure your tractor matches the diagram.

Wiring matches the diagram exactly. The tractor’s electrics were fine before the “split”, and the connections that were undone, went back where they were. I previously matched all connections with colored paint pens. I’m wondering if the VR is the problem, even though it tested as OK. Repolarizing is not supposed to be necessary with S/G’s, is it ? Any harm in trying to repolarize ?

The V/R will have NOTHING to do, with turning on the lights, and the Amp Gauge shows positive. Something is wrong here, I venture to say the Amp Meter is wired backwards.

Meter needle is at 0 all the time, it only moves and shows charge when the lights are turned on with the key in any position ( off, on, or start ). I’m going out to look at the wiring again, and hope to find it’s something stupid.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
