Diesel problems
Plowed again with the 882 tonight and I think I may have a problem. It was blowing black smoke tonight when it would load up and after running it a while I noticed a loss of power. It starts fine, engine temp is normal but when you go from an idle to 3/4 throttle it will blow black smoke. It didn't do this before. When it's running it almost sounds like the exhaust is whistling and does not have the power it did Sunday. I have about 3 hours of run time on all new Wix filters, all new fuel lines and a new gas cock in the tank. I did run out of fuel tonight and got some off road diesel (I always use) and added the diesel fuel additive (Power Service - Diesel Kleen + Octane Boost). It was having a problem before I ran out and got worse after I refueled. Where should I start looking? Thanks.

Hmmmmm your new fuel petcock is open all the way isn't it? If so I would Check your getting a good flow of fuel from the filters and through the fuel lines, maybe change filters again?? If that doesn't help my guess would be something is wrong with the pump, esp since it's blowing alot of black smoke. Does it have a primary and secondary fuel filter? If they are reversed would it do that? Don't know if any of this helps, but its what I would try.

Thanks Bocephus. The valve should be open but with a Cat 0 hitch on the back you can't get to it. It does have the original dual filter set up. I will remove the fuel line and turn the pump on to see how much fuel it is pumping. Has anybody adjusted the valves, checked the injectors or injector pump on a D600 before? Looks like it's time to start reading.

Have you checked your air filter? Sounds like you are either getting too much fuel now or not enough air.
Black Smoke...Fuel System Malfunction 1. Excessive fuel delivery 2. Restricted air cleaner 3. Defective muffler 4. Faulty injector nozzles Lack of Power...Fuel System Malfunction 1. Plugged fuel filter 2. Improper fuel 3. Faulty injector pump 4. Faulty injector nozzles 5. Faulty fuel pump 6. Restricted air cleaner 7. Low intake manifold pressure 8. Obstructed fuel line

Hope you get it figured out soon. Nothing worse than a sick feeling diesel.

Black smoke on a diesel is always too much fuel or not enough air.

I would also try bleeding your injector lines, when you changed the filters you may have got air in the system, and running it out could make it worse. We used to have a dozer that smoked and ran bad until you bled the lines.

I built a woodsplitter for an elderly neighbor. He refused to go get fresh fuel and put some stabilizer in it.
That brand new engine would not run with that additive. He did it 3 times!! Each time i would go down to his house, drain the fuel, put in fresh gas and all would be well. On the other hand, we pull started a HD10 Allis Chalmers dozer that had sat for over 10 years outside, and it started and ran with the fuel it had in it!! |

Sounds like air cleaner is a common thread in the symptoms here. I would also go ahead and bleed the lines as someone mentioned.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
