Default Is the inside of the gas tank on a 129 stainless steel?

I noticed some dirt in the tank and so want to clean everything out. I was told to look for rust but I don't see any. Is it stainless? Also, the petcock had this about an inch-long crumpled up screen that was ripped near the inside of the petcock and there was alot of dirt, etc. crammed up in there.

Should I just replace the petcock with a new one? Do they typically have those screens? I dug all the dirt out and so I imagine could put it back in the way it is without any screen but I doubt that's a good idea. Are the petcocks for lawnmower gas tanks pretty standard size?

Thanks...

The tank is not stainless. I would replace the fuel shut off if it's in bad shape.

Well, the screen is shot for one thing. So buy a new petcock? Would it best to go right to a Cub / IH dealer for that or maybe pick up at a NAPA store? I've not had much luck getting tractor parts at my local auto parts store.

Called my dealer...he suggested re-using the petcock but putting an inline fuel filter between tank and carb (?)

I forget where I got my last one but they are easily available online. You can run an inline fuel filter but make sure it's for a gravity flow system.

Here is what I used on my Gravely, but they should be the same thread size. Worked great. I would think you can get a filter relatively easily too.

I just purchase the same fuel shut off at my local NAPA store. I use a Briggs and Stratton gas filter that I purchase from my local ACE Hardware store ( small engine dealer). You need to use the filter that is design for a gravity flow system. You can purchase the fuel shut off from a small engine shop (Ace Hardware).

Thanks for the info. I cut the screen off, cleaned the valve out and will just re-use it along with a gravity-flow filter I just picked up plus a new fuel hose. I appreciate the link to the valve though.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
