Points push rod
What should the total length of it be on a Kohler 301, and is it easily removed and replaced if it's worn down? Cannot find any specs on this in the manual.I assume it just pulls out?

They typically don't wear enough to be too short, but it does happen. Are your points not opening far enough?

Yes, it just pulls out. Points push rods do wear, then you have an oil leak. They are the same length as a k241, btw. Unless its not leaking oil, or not opening far enough,...?

How do I know what "far enough" is?

I think maybe you need to read this on how to adjust timing on your engine. If you can set the timing, then it opens far enough. The points are adjustable.
Link to a post about setting timing: http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=33461 Link to the Kohler engine manual for all other questions. If you have further questions, or the manual isn't clear, by all means ask away. This is a link to a download, so might want to do it from a PC or tablet and not a phone. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4646 johncub is correct... sometimes the push rod wears and it will leak oil. |

Breaker Pin “in-spec” length on 10-16hp is 1.500" to 1.600". The last new one I purchased was 1.553”

Something else was just brought to my attention on a different forum - that of having a gasket on the points cover plus the rubber grommet where the wire goes in at the bottom. I have neither of these anymore. How important is this? Without a gasket will it cause a short? |

Use: 220297-S Grommet & 52-041-11 Gasket

Found it here are, on OCC, where all the good info is.
http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32710 And on another forum as well. Not sure if I am allowed to post links to other forums, so I won't paste the link, but it was Garden Tractor Talk. As far as the grommet and gasket, that keeps the points dry and clean. Rust dirt and corrosion is bad for point.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
